The access to the Oberaletschhütte became due to the climate-induced decrease of the upper Oberaletsch glacier increasingly difficult and for the majority of visitors impassable. The decline in overnight stays forced the warden Peter Schwitter to pursue emphatically his idea of a new access to the hut. After three years of intensive preparation, the competent authorities gave their approval and its realization got possible thanks to generous donors. The established team and many volunteers realized the new panorama path in 2005 in 5.000 work hours in just 3 months. The constructors needed one ton of explosives, 1000 splice bars and 1km chains to make the new path segment safe to walk on.
