In the touristy heavily used landscape around the Kleine Scheidegg between Wengen and Grindelwald, the steep western slopes between Männlichen and Lauberhorn provide an ideal retreat territory for chamois. With a good eye and some luck you can observe the animals, free from giddiness, in the wilderness. The population in the said area was continuously monitored in a unique research project of the University of Bern in 2000. The researchers explored the effects of heavy snowfalls, strong winds or by paragliders on the animals' behavior.
