In the Federal Inventory of Mires and Mire landscapes of National Importance are listed 545 raised bogs. The raised bog Understeinberg is one of these. The mire of 0,3 hectar is located in the back of the Lauterbrunnen valley at an altitude of around 1600 m a.s.l. A mountain trail passes on its south end. The path runs from the Alp Obersteinberg down to the Schiirboden, not in a direct line, but as a very scenic and rewarding detour passing through Im Tal and Läger. Important: raised bogs are extremely sensitive habitats. Already the simple stepping in can damage many plants. For this reason, the trail must not be left in the area of the mire.
